Increased concentration and clearer skin are two more advantages of the Detox diet.

Nothing comes without a price, we all know that. The Detox diet too has it’s side effects. The most common Detox diet side-effect is severe headaches. This occurs in the initial stages of the diet due to complete abstinence from caffeine. Therefore it is advised that practitioners gradually decrease their caffeine intake instead of sudden doing so.

Diarrhea is also a common side effect of the detox diet, resulting in dehydration and electrolyte loss. Constipation occurs when those following a detox diet increase their roughage intake without simultaneously increasing their fluid consumption. Other disadvantages of following a detox diet menu include tiredness, irritability and acne.

For these reasons, detox diets should not be followed for a prolonged period of time; also, since the detox diet deprives the body of all-important proteins, it should be stopped after a while. The Detox diet can be your gift to your body and can also be your body’s worst enemy. Keeping its pros and cons in mind you can decide whether to go for it or not. It is not for everyone.
